Relationship Therapy in the San Francisco Bay Area and across California

For individuals who want healthier, more connected relationships with others and themselves

Relationships are the not-so-secret center of human happiness.  Research confirms that people who are deeply connected live longer, and those stuck in unhappy relationships report worse quality of life and health outcomes.

If you’ve arrived here, chances are you intimately know the pain of isolation and contentious connections.

Maybe you’ve been bending over backward to make your relationship work—and you’re starting to wonder if your needs, boundaries, or voice still have a place in it.

Or perhaps you keep dating people who aren’t right for you, but feel unsure how to stop the cycle.

Maybe you feel anxious or awkward in social settings and can’t seem to show up authentically.

Here’s the thing – it’s hard to improve relationships in a vacuum.  We need others in order to improve the way we connect with others.

Makes sense, right?

Yet, it can be hard to improve relationships with the people you love without help  — sometimes you just need an outside perspective.

That’s where relationship therapy comes in.

Relationship therapy is for individuals—not couples—who want to break out of stuck patterns and create deeper, healthier, more fulfilling relationships. Whether you’re struggling in your romantic partnership, single and searching, healing from a breakup, navigating a difficult friendship or family dynamic, or dealing with social anxiety, therapy can help.

You don’t need to be part of a couple to work on your relationships, nor do you need your partner present to improve your romantic relationship.

And you don’t need to figure it all out alone (hallelujah!).

How to know if relationship therapy is right for you

This service is designed for individuals (not couples) who want support around relational struggles. It’s different from couples therapy or relationship coaching, which focus on supporting both people in a romantic relationship.

Relationship therapy may be a good fit for you if:

  • You struggle to set healthy boundaries or speak up about your needs

  • You often feel confused about whether to stay, leave, or change a relationship

  • You feel anxious, self-critical, or awkward in social or dating situations

  • You tend to lose yourself in romantic partnerships or overinvest in friendships

  • You’re dealing with the aftermath of a painful breakup, betrayal, or family conflict

  • You’ve done a lot of self-work, but still feel stuck in your relationships

  • You want to develop more secure, authentic, mutual connections

You don’t need to wait for things to get worse to seek support. Relationship therapy can help you build clarity and confidence now—so you can stop second-guessing yourself and start relating from a place of strength.

What relationship therapy can help you achieve

You may not be able to change the people around you—but you can change how you show up in your relationships.

Through relationship therapy, you can:

  • Identify and shift long-standing relational patterns

  • Build confidence in social, dating, or professional settings

  • Heal attachment wounds and let go of self-blame

  • Create healthy, reciprocal relationships based on your values

  • Learn to navigate conflict and set boundaries with less fear

  • Stop overthinking every interaction and start trusting yourself

Whether you’re rethinking your dating tendencies, unwinding the stuckness in your romantic relationship, or simply wanting to feel more at ease in your connections, we’re here to help.

Our approach to individual relationship therapy

At the Relationship Center, our therapists are known for being warm, attuned, and action-oriented. We believe that healing happens not just through insight, but through real-world changes in how you relate to yourself and others.

Our clinicians draw from:

  • Attachment theory to understand your relationship history and help you build secure connections

  • Relational neuroscience to calm your nervous system and support healthy communication

  • Parts work and somatic therapy to address inner conflicts and stuck emotional patterns

  • Drama therapy and mindfulness-based approaches to support experiential healing

  • Neurodivergent-affirming and LGBTQ+ affirming care so you feel safe bringing your full self into the room

We understand how social anxiety, trauma, cultural dynamics, and identity can all shape how you relate. Therapy is tailored to your needs, not a one-size-fits-all approach.

How relationship therapy works

We offer weekly, 50-minute therapy sessions online throughout California and in person in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Here’s how the process typically works:

  1. We start by getting to know you—your values, goals, and relationship history. We’ll also explore any struggles with anxiety, boundaries, or self-esteem.

  2. Together, we’ll begin identifying the relational patterns that are keeping you stuck—whether they show up in dating, friendships, family, or at work.

  3. Your therapist will offer concrete tools, practices, and reflections to help you shift how you show up in connection.

  4. If you’re open to it, we may use experiential techniques like role play or somatic work to go beyond insight and into embodied change.

  5. Over time, you’ll begin to feel more secure, empowered, and able to create the kinds of relationships that truly support you.
