Relationship coaching for couples in the San Francisco Bay Area and across the U.S., including long-distance and cross-state partnerships.

Helping couples build strong partnerships across distance and difference

Every couple goes through transitions—moving in together, navigating long distance, planning a wedding, starting a family, shifting careers.

Even when things are going well, these moments can bring up big questions:

How do we make sure we’re on the same page?

What happens when our communication styles clash?

How can we stay close while juggling so much?

Relationship Coaching gives you the space and structure to answer these questions together—with intention, clarity, and care.

Whether you’re in the same household or living in different states, coaching can help you and your partner build habits and agreements that support a thriving, resilient relationship.

We often work with engaged couples, long-distance couples, queer couples, and mixed-neurotype partnerships who want tools to deepen their connection and move forward as a stronger team.

Create the relationship you want, no matter the distance

Even the most committed couples benefit from structure and support. Whether you're managing logistics across state lines, planning your future, or simply wanting to feel more like a team, coaching can help you stay connected and intentional in your relationship.

Relationship coaching is ideal for couples who want to:

  • Clarify their vision for the relationship

  • Strengthen communication and conflict resolution

  • Create practical agreements that support mutual growth

In structured, 50-minute sessions, your coach will help you build skills, establish clarity, and move forward with greater confidence.

Unlike couples therapy, relationship coaching is not psychotherapy. It doesn't treat trauma or mental health issues—which means we can legally offer it across state lines, to couples anywhere in the U.S.

Relationship coaching gives your partnership structure, clarity, and support

Our coaching sessions are designed to help you and your partner stay connected, grow together, and build a lasting partnership.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Align around shared goals and expectations

  • Make decisions that honor both partners’ needs

  • Navigate stress and disagreement without escalating

  • Create agreements rooted in your shared values

  • Reconnect as teammates and partners

Your coach serves as a neutral guide, helping both partners feel heard while offering accountability, skill-building, and compassionate feedback. Expect active participation, real-time practice, and practical takeaways after each session.

Our Relationship Coaching Framework

After working with many couples, we found that most coaching clients benefit from three core focus areas. That’s why we created a structured but flexible coaching framework that includes:

Vision Clarification

Coaching starts by exploring what kind of relationship you both want to create. Whether you’re long-distance, moving in together, exploring non-monogamy, or simply wanting more alignment, this process lays the foundation.

We’ll guide you through questions like:

  • What does a successful partnership look like to each of you?

  • What do you each need to feel safe, connected, and supported?

  • What would help you weather the challenges of everyday life as a stronger team?

Agreement Creation

Once your shared vision is clear, your coach will help you translate that vision into practical, sustainable agreements that support your relationship day to day.

These might cover things like:

  • How you repair after conflict

  • How you divide responsibilities at home

  • What kind of intimacy and sexual connection you want

  • How you’ll communicate during stressful times

  • How to maintain boundaries with friends, family, and work

  • Whether your relationship is monogamous or ethically non-monogamous

  • How you’ll protect time for connection, rituals, and rest

Each agreement is customized to reflect your needs and values—not a generic template, but a living, evolving roadmap designed to support your relationship.

Communication Skill-Building

Lastly, we’ll teach you the neuroscience-informed tools you need to communicate through tough moments with less blame and more connection.

We’ll help you practice:

  • Active listening

  • De-escalation and emotional regulation

  • Compassionate truth-telling

  • Assertiveness without defensiveness

  • Conflict repair and reconnection

Many couples say these skills feel like a relationship "operating manual" they never knew they needed.

Who we work with

Relationship coaching is ideal for couples who a great fit for:

  • Couples in long-distance or multi-state relationships

  • Engaged couples wanting to build a strong foundation

  • Partners transitioning to cohabitation, parenthood, or new careers

  • Couples exploring ethical non-monogamy or navigating differing desires

  • High-functioning partnerships that want to improve communication, not dig into trauma

If deeper emotional work or trauma processing is needed, we may refer you to one of our therapists for couples therapy (available in CA only).

How relationship coaching works

Relationship coaching consists of 50-minute sessions (online or at our North Berkeley office) designed to help you and your partner build clarity, connection, and communication skills. Your coach will take an active, collaborative role—offering real-time feedback, structured exercises, and practical tools you can use right away.

Here’s what the process typically looks like:

  1. First, your coach will create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where both partners feel safe sharing thoughts, values, and hopes for the relationship.

  2. You’ll clarify your shared goals and vision for the partnership—whether you're preparing to move in together, navigating a major transition, or simply wanting to improve how you communicate.

  3. Your coach will help you develop clear, relationship-sustaining agreements that reflect your needs, values, and lifestyle. These may include expectations around communication, quality time, conflict repair, intimacy, or decision-making.

  4. Along the way, you’ll learn research-backed communication skills and neuroscience-informed practices to help you stay emotionally connected, especially during moments of stress.

  5. Your coach will guide you through experiential, action-oriented exercises to help you practice these skills in real time—and bring what you're learning into your daily life.

  6. As the coaching process continues, you and your partner will become more confident navigating challenges together, staying connected through change, and growing a relationship that reflects your deepest values.

Coaching works best for couples who are functioning relatively well but want guidance and tools to strengthen their bond. It’s especially valuable for long-distance couples, queer couples, and neurodiverse partnerships navigating logistical or interpersonal complexity with care and intention.
